Assembly Minority Leader Sam Blakeslee, of San Luis Obispo, has unveiled new modifications to his leadership team, naming four Assembly members to serve as Republican Whips.
“Our team of Republican Whips help coordinate each of our members on the floor to ensure that the voice of the minority party is represented in the legislative debate,” said Blakeslee. “Each member of the Whip team has earned a reputation as someone who can rally the troops to affect real outcomes.”
Assemblyman Steve Knight, who represents the Antelope Valley, was chosen as one of the four Whips.
Republican Whips help keep track of legislation and ensure that Republican members are present and voting when important measures are debated on the Assembly floor. They work with the Republican Floor Operations team to improve the effectiveness and engagement of Assembly Republicans on the floor.
Other Assembly members selected to serve as Whips include Assemblyman Tom Berryhill, R-Modesto, Assemblywoman Connie Conway, R-Tulare, and Assemblyman Brian Nestande, R-Palm Desert.
Santa Clarita Assemblyman Cameron Smyth already holds a separate leadership position in the legislative branch; that of Republican Caucus Chairman.
