Two men arrested in Newhall caught with stolen checks, mail and drugs.

ImageTwo men are being held without bail on federal mail theft charges after being arrested Tuesday night in Newhall.

Deputies stopped a vehicle with expired plates and arrested Newhall resident James Blakely, 32, for driving with an expired license. Blakely was also in violation of his parole on other offenses.

Upon searching the vehicle, deputies found methamphetamine, stolen and fraudulent checks and mail taken from 51 different victims from the Santa Clarita, Acton and Sylmar areas.

Blakely’s passenger, Sean London, 21, of Valencia was also arrested.

According to Lt. Brenda Cambra of the Santa Clarita sheriff’s station, the investigation is being handled by a multi-agency task force headed by the U.S. Postal Service.

The men are being held on charges that include possession of fictitious checks, identity theft, possession of a controlled substance and possession of stolen property as well as federal offenses of illegal possession of mailbox keys and mail theft.

Cambra said that postal officials told her the victims will receive a letter from investigators. Anyone who thinks they might have been a victim is encouraged to call the identity theft division of the Postal Service at (626) 405-1200.
