Newhall Coffee Roasting Co. sends 1 million cups of coffee to soldiers overseas.
In 2003, the McMullen brothers developed Patriot Blend and added it to their already popular line of coffees. They donated thousands of bags to the troops overseas then, and made a promise that for every bag of patriot blend purchased, Newhall Coffee would donate a bag to troops overseas.
Yesterday, however, they upped the ante by shipping off a whopping 1 million cups of coffee.
As huge palates of coffee wrapped in American flags were loaded onto a truck, several members of the United States Army looked on with a smile.
“It’s a big morale boost for us over there,” said Staff Sgt. George, who now serves as a recruiter in Santa Clarita. “I was deployed in 2003 and we were always looking forward to getting support from everybody in America.”
Mayor Marsha McLean was on hand for the event, and even jumped on the forklift to lend a hand. They wouldn’t let her drive it though.
And after an announcement from Mitch McMullen, the whole staff posed with the soldiers and Mayor for pictures before sending the coffee off.
Newhall Coffee is a staple here in Santa Clarita, and can be purchased in Ralphs and Sam’s Club.
