Patrol Car Involved In Stevenson Ranch Crash

khts_crime_genericA Garden Grove woman was involved in a head-on collision with a Santa Clarita Sheriff’s patrol deputy responding to an assistance call this morning in Stevenson Ranch.

Shortly before 5 a.m., Jessie Frutos, 17, was driving a 2005 Mercedes eastbound on Pico Canyon Road and preparing to make a left turn onto Stevenson Ranch Parkway. Deputy Blake Carpenter, 24, was responding to an assistance call with two additional patrol units traveling westbound on Pico Canyon, approaching the intersection of Stevenson Ranch Parkway at approximately 50-55 MPH.

Preliminary investigation by the California Highway Patrol indicates that Frutos turned left directly into the path of Deputy Carpenter’s marked patrol car, and the deputy was unable to avoid a head-on collision.

CHP and LA County Fire Department units responded to the scene. Both Frutos and Carpenter sustained minor to moderate injuries and were both transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for treatment.
