Assemblyman Cameron Smyth today announced the hiring of Paul B. Strickland as his Santa Clarita Valley Field Representative, replacing Ed Masterson who recently accepted a position as Interim President of the Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce. Strickland will begin working in Smyth’s district office on June 1.
Strickland said that he has known Smyth for many years and looks forward to working closely with him.
““I’ve known Cameron since he was a representative for (the late State Senator) Pete Knight,” Strickland said. “He’s a local boy, he went to Hart High School and look how his career has grown. He’s going places and it’s exciting to be part of it.”
Before joining Smyth’s office, Strickland held a variety of positions in the entertainment and media industries, spending more than 20 years as an animation producer. As of late, he hosts the entertainment show “Thursday Matinee” on KHTS AM 1220 and writes a political column for a local newspaper. He also serves on the Arts Commission for the City of Santa Clarita.
Strickland also holds leadership positions on important boards throughout the Los Angeles area. For the last nine years, he has been a member of the William S. Hart Union High School District Governing Board, which he currently chairs, and is Past President of the Hart District Advisory Committee. A resident of the Santa Clarita Valley for 26 years, Strickland brings with him the experience to effectively convey Assemblyman Smyth’s agenda to the community.
“Our team in the district office has a wealth of knowledge and a variety of experiences regarding issues affecting our community,” said Smyth. “Paul Strickland will contribute immediately and effectively to the outreach and constituent services that my district office provides. I have known Paul for many years, and I value his political acumen, leadership skills, and integrity.
“It is a great opportunity to add someone with his experience to my staff,” Smyth added. “Paul will be an asset to my office and to the Santa Clarita Valley.”
