Man sitting on tracks hit by Metrolink headed for Lancaster.

[view:node_ad=5] A 55-year old man was sitting on the railroad tracks near Avenue M in the Antelope Valley Tuesday morning when he was hit by a Metrolink train coming in to the Lancaster station.

The man was knocked from the tracks by the train at approximately 8:25 a.m., but Metrolink spokesman Francisco Oaxha said that the crew on that train did not realize they had hit anyone and did not stop. When the train reached the station in Lancaster, which is the end of the line, it reversed direction and as it traveled southbound and approached the area near Avenue M, saw the man laying along the side of the tracks and called for aid.

According to Lt. David Oliva of the Lancaster Sheriff's Station, the man told deputies he sat down on the tracks to rest and did not notice the approaching train. He told deputies he was hit by the train. The man was airlifted to Providence Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, where he is being treated for a broken leg and major arm and back trauma.

Deputies investigating the crash closed the tracks for approximately one hour, but Oaxha said there was no disruption in Metrolink service.
