Percussive Drum Competition Coming To SCV

Drum_SticksDrummers from the Santa Clarita Valley are being summoned for a nationwide drum competition. CHOPS, a nationwide percussive art competition, is hosting competitions across the country and drummers could win cash prizes.

Round one of the competition takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at the Northpark Community Church.

There are three divisions with division one solo snare competitors 21 and under and division two with solo snare competitors 22 and over. The third division will feature groups of two to four people.

The goal of the competition is to highlight the expression and creative artistry within the bounds of the highly technical requirements of rudimental percussion.

All entrants must be at least 13 years old to compete and an entrance fee of $40 is required. Northpark Community Church is located at 28310 Kelly Johnson Parkway near Newhall Ranch Road and Copper Hill Drive and registration begins at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, June 5.
