The man who Sheriff’s Deputies believe robbed the Citibank on Lyons Avenue on December 4th is in custody today, thanks to his prompt reporting to his probation officer.
The man who robbed the bank handed a teller a deposit slip that had $6,000 written on it, and then flashed a gun. When he was given the money, he walked away and despite a canvas of the area responding officers were unable to locate the suspect.
Deputies say that they were able to lift a finger print from the deposit slip he used, and the print matched that of Jose Alex Mendez.
They also learned that Mendez was on probation for a forgery at another Citibank in San Fernando, and was scheduled to be visiting his probation officer yesterday.
So members of the Santa Clarita CIT team went to the office. When Mendez showed up, he was arrested and is now being held on $105,000 bail.
