Judge determines enough evidence to prosecute 19-year old.
Nearly a year after a violent confrontation that left a
Canyon High baseball player dead, a preliminary court judge has determined that
Michael Dean Stephens will be prosecuted on murder and attempted murder charges.
Sandi Gibbons, a spokesperson for the District Attorney’s
office, said that Stephens, now 19, will return to court Dec. 3 for arraignment
on one count of murder and one count of attempted murder for his involvement in
the death of 20-year old Josh Pipho and assault on 22 year old Chad Weitz
during a November 24, 2007
party in Stevenson Ranch.
Stephens allegedly stabbed Pipho several times, then ran him
over with his vehicle as he fled the scene. Weitz was also stabbed more than a
dozen times and is recovering from his injuries. For the original story, click here.
Stephens has been in custody since turning himself in at the
Lynwood Sheriff’s Station on November 28,
2007. He is being held at Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los
Angeles in lieu of $1,500,000 bail.
