Pitchess Detention Center Recognized For Clean-Air Composting Project

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will become the first Southern California public agency to utilize innovative composting technology, announced Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, who also serves as a director for the South Coast Air Quality Management District. “Emission-free composting at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic allows the facility to process food waste generated by staff and inmates and eliminates the need to transport organic waste materials to area landfills,” Supervisor Antonovich said.  “This will remove polluting, diesel-belching trucks from the highways.”
