Placerita Canyon Park and Nature Center has reopened after heavy rains shut it down last week.
Regularly scheduled programs such as the animal show resumed Saturday. But the one-two punch of July fires and winter rains have wiped out most of the trails, and nearly all of them remain closed, said Ian Swift, park supervisor.
“Right now, if you want to visit the Oak of the Golden Dream, it’s nothing but a pipe dream,” Swift said. “That trail is totally wiped out,” he said Friday, when the facility reopened.
Only the park’s handful of paved trails, most of them in the picnic area near the nature center, were able to be reopened, Swift said.
A few trails will reopen this week, but “the remainder of our trails will be closed until after the rainy season is over,” especially those in the more remote areas, he said.
