On Tuesday afternoon, KHTS’ Kathy Smith was on hand with Santa Clarita Mayor Pro Tem Bob Kellar to witness Polish President Lech Kaczynski present Poland’s highest award to former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, at the Reagan Library.

Former First Lady Nancy Reagan accepted the award on behalf of her late husband.

President Kaczynski delivered the award for Reagan’s “tireless efforts to bring democracy to the Polish people.”

Former Secretary of State George Shultz introduced the Polish President, who also gave a special lecture.

A special exhibit focusing on the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, which was first displayed in Poland, was on display in the Reagan Library’s main lobby in honor of President and Mrs. Kaczynski’s visit to the Library.

The Order of the White Eagle is not only a huge honor for Reagan, but also a first for Poland. “It is considered the highest order of recognition in Poland that anyone can receive, and President Reagan is the only person outside of Poland that has been in receipt of this recognition,” said Kellar.
