Bill Miranda will take the oath of office during Tuesday’s City Council meeting, after he was appointed from a pool of 50 candidates last week.

City Council members named Miranda to fill the vacancy caused by Assemblyman Dante Acosta’s departure. The Jan. 24 meeting also has committee appointments, a mobile home park referendum and an extension of the marijuana ban on the agenda.
The mayor annually consults with City Council to consider updates to City Council’s committee assignments.
The committees include state and regional bodies: seats for the California League of Cities; San Fernando Valley Council of Governments; and High Speed Transportation Committee.
Budget, Development, Film/Tourism, Public Safety and many other committees will also be discussed.
Two existing moratoriums are being discussed for extension at Tuesday’s meeting.
A memorandum that bans the change or conversion of any existing senior mobile home park in Santa Clarita, was first brought to the council on Jan. 26 of last year.
The emergency ordinance was passed due to the concern of Sierra Park senior residents that were being threatened with conversion to an all ages community.
“We need more time to properly assess the impact of changes to these mobile home parks,” said Erin Lay, housing program administrator.
There are 16 manufactured home parks containing just under 2,000 spaces, according to the Manufactured Home Rental Adjustment Panel.
Only three of the parks in Santa Clarita are designated for seniors, said Lay. The extension would prevent any changes for 10 months and 15 days.
A memorandum passed last December to ban the sale of recreational marijuana is also on the agenda.
The city has investigated what provision should be included in a permanent ordinance for non-medical marijuana with regard to marijuana businesses, since passage of the ban.
City staff is directed to continue to study and analyze issues related to the establishment or operation of recreational marijuana businesses and private marijuana cultivation within the city
The council will decide if the pot ban could be extended for an additional 10 months and 15 days.
