About a week after Election Day, Acosta conceded after trailing in the count by about 1,700 votes as of Tuesday.

“With yesterday’s vote update, it has become clear that the voters have spoken,” said Acosta. “While votes are still being counted the outcome appears set. Last night, I called Christy Smith to congratulate her on her victory.”

Smith is preparing to take over as the representative for the 38th District after a long election season.

“I am looking forward to serving the community,” said Smith. “We will take the next few weeks to talk with stakeholders about their priorities.”

Assemblywoman-elect Smith officially takes office in January, with a swearing-in ceremony planned for December.

In the midst of it all, Smith wanted to thank Acosta for his efforts to make the transition “as smooth as possible,” with district staff already assisting in the change.

The assemblyman said it was an “honor” to serve the community, and is looking to the future.

“It has been an honor meeting so many more wonderful people while representing the area where I was raised and am raising my family,” said Acosta.

  1. Congratulations to Christy Smith and all that voted for the progressive agenda that will represent all of us, not just the pay-to-play corporados. Along with Katie Hill, expect an improvement in our governance.

    • “… the progressive agenda that will represent all of us, not just the pay-to-play corporados”

Do you mean like the public sector and trade unions that funded Christy Smith’s campaign, or Bloomberg who funded Katie Hill’s campaign?

“…expect an improvement in our governance”

I don’t know, I moved here because it was already pretty good.

      • Just speaking personally, I think you can thank Donald Trump for these results. He is an awful person and motivated me to vote against anyone remotely associated with him.

        • Tom, That is what I told Mrs. Acosta. Any political party or organization that would run a candidate such as Donald Trump for the highest office in the land needs to go Those that did nothing to curb his actions once in office are complicit and also need to go. That’s ‘trickle-down’ that works!

      • Yes, we do! Go, Christy! (sore loser)

    • You can also expect more taxes too.

  2. When you “give” expecting reciprocation, it’s not really giving. Bloomberg supports politicians who will make him less wealthy. Charles Koch invests in candidates. Give me a break.

    • Aside from the ridiculousness of your comment, correct me if I’m wrong but the Koch’s did not contribute one penny to either Knight’s or Acosta’s campaigns, so I don’t see the relevance of your comment in our local races. However, I know for a fact trade and public sector unions, and Blooomberg donated LARGE to both Hill’s and Smith’s.

  3. Congratulations to both Christy Smith & Katie Smith!! About time, we see our district catch up with the majority of California!

    • Thanks to redistricting! That’s the only way they could win in Santa Clarita!

    • Scam election! People live here to get away from the horror of California so called ” elected officials ” crazy decisions. Dante is a great guy and accepted donation limits whereas the Smith and Hill corruption campaign did not, accepted union and DNC $$$ to flood our area along with the influx of thousands of people. Shameful. Remember when your taxes go through the roof you only have yourselves to blame. 21,000 new homes coming our way Santa Clarita and that is only by MM.

Please prove that wrong. No new or higher taxes.
      Wake up sheep!

  4. Wonderful now how do I get on the dole. I might as well enjoy the down ride. I now can have lots of free goodies from the California Coastal Communists ( Dems ) Let’s forget what was normal and learn to live free. Freeloaders rejoice. You are welcome to come and enjoy at least as long as it lasts.

  5. I am neither Dem or Rep and I think they both ran a good campaign and I think they both have lots to offer to our community. I respect them both and I look forward to all of us seeing how we can contribute to making our community better.

  6. Good luck with your “progressive” (another term for “socialist”) dominated government and agenda California! A once beautiful state is now on its way to bankruptcy! Hooray for the Dem’s who got you there!

  7. The only good thing about the resist voters voting in another money hungry democrat is the those who did the resist vote will be screwed like those of us who didn’t vote for a democrat strictly because they were a democrat.

  8. I’m just happy that both Hill and Smith won this election, it’s time for a progressive change in local government. SCV has been run by Republicans for too long now. All the doomsayers don’t despair, it’s going to be great here!

  9. Boohoo, Trumpflakes, suck it up! You label those who voted for a Democrat as communists, but you blindly follow #putinsbitch, go figure. Laughing all the way to impeachment.

    • Trump flakes lol ,are you a sucked in libtard or what ?just keep your foil hats on so Russians don’t talk you into voting for President Trump too lol. So far so good with our choice keep up the good work President Trump and keep fighting for us and our American values.

  10. And yeah Katie (Perry)hill is promising threesomes for all. You really inspired our college kids to get out there and vote thanks Demacrats.

  11. This is total BS, I’m gonna rally and picket these election results. I’m gonna expose this whole corrupt system. I’ll get violent if I have to and block the intersections so no cars can pass, I’ll lie & cheat just like the libtards do, I’ll say stupid ridiculous things, and make claims with no basis at all. I’m in for the long haul. #NotMyAssemblyRep

Wait, never mind, I have to work tomorrow, and have expenses and responsibilities. Besides, George Soros stopped paying me, so I guess I’ll just accept the results and get back to life. #NextElection #Trump #MAGA

    🙂

  12. What does Perry have to do with anything?

    • Perry? Not a thing-
It’s just Will, dreaming of a threesome, doing his one-some.
Isn’t it sad that some feel the need to urinate all over a simple congratulatory note…

    • Katie Perry sings that song ” I kissed a girl and I liked it” just like hills I’m bisexual statement. But she’s married does that mean she’s into threesomes ? Sure sounds like it.

    • Katie Perry sings that song “I kissed a girl and I liked it” maybe it’s her inspiration song. That’s why she had to go public with her bisexuality. But she is married so sounds like she must be into threesomes.

  13. I’m just wondering how many dead people voted in this election?

  14. I am very sad about this news. Dante Acosta will be missed, he worked hard for this community!

  15. I am truly saddened to hear that Dante lost. I absolutely believe that he is a good, honest man that represented his district very well. I wish him well in his future endeavors. We shall see what the future holds for us with Katie Hill.

  16. You can thank the San Fernando Valley portion of the new redistricting zone we are now in for both wins. They could never win in Santa Clarita alone, so of course that had to be changed. Now Santa Clarita will become more and more like the liberal disaster The Valley is in Los Angeles. The reason many of us moved to Santa Clarita was to get away from the liberal disasters in Los Angeles. My time is limited in Santa Clarita and ultimately California. Sick of this raise your tax at every turn, illegal immigration, laws don’t matter, the police are evil state and I’m going to have to sadly say goodbye when I can.
