During the Nov. 6 election, Acosta was defeated by current Assemblymember Christy Smith, D-Santa Clarita, by over 5,000 votes and is now seeking to challenge Smith for his former seat in the legislative body.

“I am just exploring the possibility of another run,” said Acosta. “Over the holidays, I am going to spend time with my family and see what we want to do next.”

The committee is just the first step to run for office in California; Acosta still needs to file an “intent to run,” according to the Secretary of State (SOS).

“The committee is just a formality,” said Acosta. “I am still looking into filing my intent to run.”

If Acosta completes his application, this would the former assemblyman’s third re-match against Smith. Acosta won in 2016, but was unseated in 2018.

This news comes days after the announcement that Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger nominated Acosta for a seat on the SCV Water board.

Acosta is still subject to approval from the board of directors to officially take the spot in the agency.

As of Thursday, there are no other candidates seeking office for the 38th Assembly District in 2020.

  1. So I guess that’s why Barger nominated him to the Water Board? Sort of outrageous when he was just voted out of office by the people of this valley and has that accusation hanging over his head.
