Vote-by-mail forms are due Tuesday, Feb. 28, for the March 7 election that, for Santa Clarita Valley voters, is all about the controversial Measure H.
Los Angeles County officials intend to raise money for initiation of county programs to assist the homeless.
The measure requires a two-thirds majority vote to pass. If it goes through, Measure H will raise the sales tax rate in L.A. County by 0.25 percent.
Locally, representatives have offered differing views regarding the solution to the countywide homelessness problem.
“I plan to vote no on Measure H,” said Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth in a previous story. “Voters just approved increasing taxes for parks and roads in November — we don’t need to raise them again.”
Smyth also felt the situation called for a “Santa Clarita” solution, versus a countywide fix.
However Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger supports the bill after numerous revisions, according to her spokesperson Tony Bell, maintaining that the bill is set to expire in 10 years, and will only raise the sales tax, and not the parcel tax.
This is a county election, therefore all measures and propositions are subject to the entire county rather than only the 25th district, which includes Santa Clarita.
The primary nominating election is on March 7, and the general election is March 17.
