The Law Enforcement Task Force, which is backed by the Republican Policy Committee, was formed in the wake of the recent tensions between various police departments and communities across the country.
Eleven lawmakers with backgrounds in law enforcement, including Rep. Knight, will meet in the coming months to gather relevant information and offer recommendations to local departments.
“Our goal is to make sure police departments have the resources they need and information on the best practices available to them so that they can be effective in their communities,” said Representative Knight.
Representative Knight served in the Los Angeles Police Department for eighteen years, including some time on the elite Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums, or CRASH, unit, while concurrently on the Palmdale City Council.
He left his police officer position to serve in the California State Legislature, where he focused largely on public safety.
The Task Force will hold hearings in Washington, D.C. and in locations around the United States starting in Sept.
Representative Steve Knight, (R-Antelope Valley), represents California’s 25th Congressional District in the US House of Representatives, which includes the communities throughout the Antelope, Santa Clarita and Simi Valleys.
