After last Friday’s deadline to apply for the vacant seat, the city saw 50 applicants, some of which include applicants who applied in November or past races.

The City Council seat was made available after Dante Acosta was elected to the California state Assembly in November’s elections.
KHTS AM-1220 invited all of the candidates on air for a brief interview about some of the topics facing Santa Clarita City Council.
Out of the 50 total applicants, KHTS was able to interview 27 live on the air.
Baldwin-Kennedy ran in November for trustee of the Santa Clarita Community College District. She owns her own law firm that recently relocated to Valencia.
Bianco is a Navy veteran, where he served in a submarine. He has organized and worked for several local candidates.
Block is an English teacher and former lawyer. He moved to Santa Clarita 10 years ago. Brian volunteers at Temple Beth Ami in Newhall.
Boydston is a former city council member. He ran for reelection in November and placed third. TimBen is currently executive director for the Canyon Theatre Guild.
Braun is a lawyer and retired FBI official from White Collar division. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Peace Officers Association and the City of Hope.
Conn is retired, and ran for city council in 2014. He has previously owned his own construction company.
Cooper is a pastor and a professor of leadership at UCLA. Robert has supported the local homeless population, veterans, and seniors through his church.
Cruz is the former commissioner for the Parks and Recreation Committee. He currently serves as a paralegal for the LA City Attorney’s Office.
Kenneth is the owner of the interior design firm Dean Designs. He has served on the City Formation Committee and the Open Space Committee.
De La Cerda is the President of the Saugus Union School District board. He is also a founding member of the Small Business Development Center.
Dr. Dorio is a doctor at Henry Mayo Hospital and also does house calls. He has a radio show “Senior Health Hour” on KHTS.
Drake is a history teacher and baseball coach at Alemany High School. He has recently moved to Santa Clarita. Drake is a member of the SCV Historical Society.
Dwork is an assistant principal at La Mesa Jr. High School. She is a board member of the SCV scholarship program and volunteers for City of Hope.
Dr. Elfont is the president of the Santa Clarita Philharmonic. Mark moved to Santa Clarita 7 years ago from Philadelphia, where he was a school board member.
Farrell works for Quest Diagnostics as an Inter-business partner. She volunteers for Relay of Life and Meet Each Need with Dignity (MEND).
Ferdman is the chair of the Canyon Country Advisory Committee. He ran for city council in November and placed fourth. Alan is a retired JPL engineer
Fraser is a maintenance technician for the County of Los Angeles. He is a member of the MHP rent advisory council.
Ghilardi is a manager at Costco and has lived in Santa Clarita since 2004. Kristin says her time as a transient will give her an “alternative view.”
Gibbs is a senior project manager for the GP Strategies corporation. He has served on the board of his HOA.
Gonzalez recently graduated from CSUN and has lived in Santa Clarita most of his life. Tito is a waiter at the Way Station in Newhall.
Haddock is a software engineer for Ebay. He ran for city council in November and placed ninth. Brett was recently appointed to the Canyon Country Advisory Committee.
Hargett is an Emergency Medical Technician. He ran for city council in November and placed seventh. Matthew is a lifelong resident of Santa Clarita.
Hershey has served as a Sheriff at the Santa Clarita Valley Station for 30 years. He is a member of the SC Disaster Coalition and Red Cross Foundation.
Hood is a retired teacher and has served on the board of the Castaic Council. He is a football coach for the City’s parks and recreation league.

Mercado-Fortine served as a board member for the William S. Hart School District for 11 years. She has lived in Santa Clarita for over 50 years.
Miranda is the managing partner for Our Valley Group, a bilingual publication in Santa Clarita. He is the former CEO of the Latino Chamber of Commerce.
Mouser currently works as a technician for Southern California Edison. He is a lifelong resident of Santa Clarita.
Nichols is currently retired. She ran for city council in November and placed sixth. Sandra has fought for more access for disabled residents.

Phethean is currently retired, and has lived in Santa Clarita for 17 years. He has served as chair of the Saugus Union School District oversight board.
Rosenberg is a lawyer and consultant for the Air Force. He is a current member of the California Bar Association.
Ruelas is a graduate of UC Davis and lifelong resident of Santa Clarita. He ran for city council in November and placed 10th.
Scott is the owner of Shepard Insurance, and has lived in Santa Clarita over 20 years. He has served as chair of the Child and Family Center Foundation.
Smith is a former teacher and current stay at home mother. She has lived in Santa Clarita for almost 40 years.
Sodergren is a special education teacher. She has served as a Westside Union School District school board member for 11 years.
Thomas is an administrative manager for a local insurance company. She volunteers with Bridge to Home and the VFW.
Topolski is an IT consultant, and has lived in Santa Clarita for 12 years. He has served on the Psychology Council for the Hart District.
Trautman is a former member of the Planning Commission, and has lived in Santa Clarita for 24 years. She has also served on the PTA for 15 years.
Vincent is a realtor and has served on the board for the Association of Realtors. He is president of the SCV division for the Southland Association of Realtors.
Weber is founder and CEO of the Sedan Group. He has lived in Santa Clarita for 20 years. Sean volunteers with the local homeless shelter.
White is owner of GEM Mortgage. He ran for city council in November and placed eighth. Mark is a member of the Rotary Club and PTA.
White is a former business owner and cab driver. She currently serves as president of the interfaith council in Santa Clarita.
Wieczorek is a postal carrier for the USPS. He ran for city council in November and placed eleventh.
Wiseman is the CEO of AMS fulfillment and has partnered with the COC business program. He is a board member of the SCVEDC.
