Councilman Dante Acosta nominated Kellar for pro tem, which was also quickly affirmed by a unanimous vote.
McLean was first voted to City Council in 2002, and was re-elected after being the second-leading vote-getter in April’s election.
McLean’s 5,677 votes were second to Councilwoman Laurene Weste, who passed the gavel to McLean.
In her opening remarks at Tuesday’s City Council meeting, McLean mentioned several plans the city would be working on in the next several years as part of an effort dubbed “Santa Clarita 2020.
“As we move into 2015, I want to let you know that the high level of customer service, transparency in government, excellent capital improvement projects and responsive local government you enjoy will continue,” she said.
Among the programs to be developed, she mentioned:
- A new community center in Canyon Country
- A new library and community rooms in Saugus
- A new and larger Sheriff’s Station in the city
- A state-of-the-art Tennis Complex at Central Park
- More open space acquisitions and trail enhancements
- Completion of the Arts Master Plan
- Working with L.A. County and the Committee on Aging for a new Senior Center
“Each of our older established neighborhoods and businesses throughout the City deserve equal attention, and revitalization of each community is a priority,” she added.
McLean has been a frequent city advocate for transportation concerns, especially with respect to Los Angeles County and statewide projects, something she said she planned to continue, she said.
“One of my top advocacy priorities this year is to work with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, known as METRO,” she said, “to better represent and meet our transportation needs in Santa Clarita.”
