With the race for the 25th Congressional District well under way, the fundraising race is also heating up.

Five candidates have declared their intent to garner the seat held by Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, in the 25th Congressional District, although the figures show there appears to be three front-runners.
For just the fourth quarter 2013, Lee Rogers raised $93,940.93; Tony Strickland raised $39,755; and state Sen. Steve Knight, R-Palmdale, raised $21,888.
Rogers, a Democrat who lost to current 25th Congressional District Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, in November 2012, said his campaign received a big boost after McKeon announced he wouldn’t run again.
“We received 1,300 new donations in the week after McKeon’s retirement,” Rogers said.

For Rogers, $68,240.93 came from individual donors and $25,700 came from Political Action Committees, according to Federal Election Commission reports.
Tony Strickland, a Republican candidate for the 25th Congressional District seat from Simi Valley, raised $36,255 in individual contributions in the fourth quarter, and $3,500 coming from Political Action Committees.
“I’m honored by the incredible amount of support I have received,” Strickland said in a news release statement.
Strickland’s filings show $418,271.55 cash-on-hand in the Strickland for Congress campaign coffers; however, his campaign fundraising reports also show that his to-date election-cycle fundraising totals reached $401,049.51 while he was still declared as a candidate to run for the 26th Congressional District.
That was Strickland’s initial intent before he declared he would run for McKeon’s seat if he retired.

Knight, whose current district in the California Legislature encompasses the eastern half of the Santa Clarita Valley, said his campaign push to raise money was about five weeks old, and his goal for the first quarter was $100,000.
“We’re about five weeks into our fundraising, and we’re pushing to get over $100,000,” said Knight, who added that the tallies had not yet reported a fundraising he held Friday at Valencia TPC. “It’s been steady and very good as far as support we’ve received from the district.”
“The fourth quarter is usually one of the worst, and the first quarter is one of the best,” Rogers said of the fundraising chase, noting that most candidates, including himself, are usually reluctant to solicit donations right around the holidays.
Two other Democratic candidates, Evan Thomas and Jorge Puentes, did not have fundraising reports on file, as of Feb. 3.

Thank you for the e-mail request for donation for Tony Strickland running for Congress. I find it funny that the mailing house you have working on this is called “geniuses” they are so smart that they spend time with demonstrating the fact that they have no idea where the 25th congressional district is. And select my address in the 49th Congressional District living in San Clemente to send information and spend time in trying to get a donation. I would suggest either Mr. Tony Strickland read up on where his district is, or perhaps purchase a good map from this century to let him know. But if he wants to spend his time and the peoples money trying to get donations and votes from people who cannot vote for him, that is his business and we can’t take him to serious or careful. We have enough problems on the national agenda agenda that we don’t need this genius making more work for no pay off.
