Elections for the California Assembly will be held on Nov. 4.

Kennedy spent the past four years as McKeon’s district representative.

He was deployed to Kuwait and Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom I and a second time during Operation Iraqi Freedom II. He was honorably discharged from Camp Lejeune in 2005

Reactivated from the Individual Ready Reserve in 2007, Kennedy made his third deployment to Iraq from Camp Pendleton.

His interest in politics was sparked from his personal re-acclamation experiences to civilian life, after three military deployments, Kennedy said.

“Returning from active duty, I found myself in the same situation, facing a unique set of challenges that so many of my veteran brothers and sisters face when returning to civilian life,” Kennedy said. “It’s not an easy road, and as so many of us know, navigating the Veterans Affairs processes can be frustrating at best.”

He is currently the commander of the Newhall American Legion, president of L.A. County Airshow, as well as a board member of AV Boys and Girls Club.

The 36th Assembly District encompasses a portion of the northernmost reaches of the Santa Clarita Valley, as well as Acton, Palmdale and Lancaster.
