The race is one of the more crowded candidate pictures in recent times, with much of the interest spurred by Santa Clarita City Councilman Frank Ferry’s decision not to run.
Ferry said he planned to step away from politics to spend more time with his family.
That leaves the door open for at least one seat, and there will be three seats open April 8.
Santa Clarita Mayor Laurene Weste and Mayor Pro Tem Marsha McLean both filed paperwork to seek re-election.
The two incumbents join Dante Acosta, Sandra Bull, Moazzem H. Chowdhury, Dennis Conn,
Stephen P. Daniels, Alan Ferdman, Berta Gonzalez-Harper, Maria Gutzeit, Duane Harte, Gloria Mercado-Fortine and Paul Wieczorek, who have all filed their intent to run.
Information on the procedure for the City Council election is available at a city website set up for elections.
The city also included a link so that residents can find the closest polling place.
As the race nears, hometownstation.com will be posting profiles with more information about who will be running.
