Santa Clarita Valley Votes On Legislators, Bonds, Billboards

Santa Clarita Valley voters cast ballots Tuesday on billboards, Congress, a school bond and Sacramento, with results being tallied into the early morning hours.

With 100 percent of district precincts reporting early Wednesday morning, state Sen. Steve Knight, R-Antelope Valley, is going to replace Congressman Howard “Buck” McKeon in the 25th Congressional District.

 

Knight took an early lead on mail-in ballots and finished up 46,610-40,491 over former state Sen. Tony Strickland.

Measure S failed by a vote of 16,284-12,697,  with Santa Clarita residents rejecting the city’s controversial billboard deal with Metro.

Assemblyman Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, claimed a big win in his bid for a second term in the state Legislature over Jorge Fuentes leading 45,932-22,968 for the 38th Assembly seat.

Republican Tom Lackey — a retired CHP officer and Palmdale city councilman,  looked to take the 36th Assembly District, which covers portions of the Santa Clarita Valley, from Steve Fox, D-Antelope Valley. Lackey led 31,940-20,145.

Measure EE for Saugus Union School District voters — an attempt by the district to raise money for school facilities — passed with 57.8 percent support.

In the Los Angeles County race for the Sheriff’s Office, Jim McDonnell won big over Paul Tanaka, claiming almost 75 percent of the vote in a 627,729-211,255 win.
