Officials said 4,649 polling places all over Los Angeles County were open for the June 3 Statewide Direct Primary Election.

State Sen. Steve Knight, R-Antelope Valley, took an early lead Tuesday night in the race to replace Congressman Buck McKeon in the 25th Congressional District.

Tony Strickland ended the night with a slim lead of Knight, with Democrat Lee Rogers missing the cut by about 2,900 votes. Rogers lost a competitive race to McKeon in November 2012.

There will also be a new sheriff in town come November, so voters are also being asked for their top choice for that office, as well.
