IMGE Insights, a national polling firm based out of Alexandria, VA, conducted a survey in four key House battleground districts, including the CA-25 Congressional District, to test support for net neutrality and its impact on the midterm election.

“Our survey found that voters overwhelmingly say they support net neutrality,” Bryan Sanders of IMGE Insights said in the study. “A majority say they will take it into account during the election.”

Net neutrality is an Obama-era policy that required internet service providers to treat all online content the same.

The ISPs were not allowed to deliberately speed up or slow down traffic from specific websites or apps, or put their own content at an advantage over rivals.

For example, Comcast could not choose to slow down a service like Netflix to make its own streaming video service more competitive, nor force Netflix to pay more money to be part of a so-called internet “fast lane.”

A total 64 percent of the voters surveyed from the CA-25 district said that they were in favor of net neutrality protections, while 20 percent said they were opposed, and the remaining 16 percent were not sure, or chose not to answer.

The survey also showed that voters are likely to consider this issue when election day comes in November. A total 60 percent of the survey’s participants said that they were more likely to vote for an individual who took immediate action to reinstate net neutrality protections.

“Independent and undecided voters are more likely to vote for members who act immediately to force a vote to overturn the FCC and restore net neutrality protections,” Sanders said. “Such voters are more likely to oppose incumbents when it is pointed out that they have not helped overturn the FCC and restore net neutrality.”
