2018 Steve Knight Breakfast Fundraiser

We’re LIVE at the Steve Knight Breakfast

Posted by KHTS Radio on Friday, October 5, 2018

Over 100 people in attendance at the early morning breakfast fundraiser gathered to meet with Congressman Knight and Larry Elder.

Knight used some of his time to talk to constituents about what he believes was one of his greatest accomplishments — and a campaign promise — during his first two terms in Washington: supporting small businesses.

“We’re committed to what small business does and we’re committed to making sure they have resources and they have the ability to expand,” said Knight. “Today, we have a 3.7 percent unemployment rate, the lowest in 50 years, and that continues to go down.”

Additionally, Knight said that his two other campaign promises, supporting the military and veteran care, have been a focus for his staff over the past four years, as evidenced by his support of increased military spending, and working on legislation that would improve veteran health care accessibility within the district.

“We started a new program in this district and Rep. McCarthy’s district, that is the only one in the country, and while it’s a little bumpy, we’re working through it,” said Knight. “Our program is not when a veteran calls and needs service, they can either go to a Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) or over the hill to West LA or Sepulveda. But we said if you can’t go to the CBOC or it’s on the weekend or after hours, you can now go to your nearby urgent care.”

Dubbed the Convenient Care Initiative, the new program Knight referenced involves changing the standard procedures of Veteran Administration healthcare. Under current VA standard procedures, veterans who are covered by the VA are required to visit a CBOC, or a regional, general care outpatient facility.

If that facility cannot meet their full needs, then veterans, say in Santa Clarita, must then go to the VA located 30 miles away in Los Angeles.

And while it’s still in its experimental stages, the Convenient Care Initiative now allows veterans seeking medical treatment to be able to go to a nearby urgent care, with the bill being sent to and covered by the Veterans Administration.

Talk show veteran Larry Elder then addressed the crowd by sharing his journey as a high profiled conservative African American.

Elder closed out the early morning event, by not only sharing his support for Steve Knight’s reelection campaign, but also voicing his opinions on Donald Trump and the president’s stance on Elder’s colleagues in the media.

“One of the things I believe got Donald Trump elected is because he finally stood up to the media in ways that I’ve never seen somebody do,” said Elder. “We have an enemy in the media.”

Elder tailored his views on the president, the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation debacle, and his own life experiences, into the explanation of why he supports Knight.

“These (Democrats) are relentless and we need to stand up and doing something about it,” said Elder. “So please vote … and support Steve Knight.”

After concluding his speech, Elder was met with a standing ovation from the audience, as well as Assemblyman Dante Acosta, R-Santa Clarita, Assemblyman Tom Lackey, R-Antelope Valley and City Councilmembers Bill Miranda, Marsha McLean and Bob Kellar, who were all in attendance as well.

Tickets for the event cost $100 each, or $1000 per table and the funds raised were donated to the Campaign to Reelect Steve Knight.

  1. The Eldorados will be voting for Steve Knight

  2. Wonderful presentation by Mr. Elder.

  3. Go Larry, love you! Watch you on Varney show and you make way too much sense. You are so intelligent. That’s a rarity now.

  4. “One of the things I believe got Donald Trump elected is because he finally stood up to the media in ways that I’ve never seen somebody do,” said Elder. “We have an enemy in the media.”

Does that make KHTS an enemy in this country?

Is this the new right wing “hate speech” we’ve been hearing about?
