Wilk Bill Increasing Fiscal Transparency For Local Bonds Passes Unanimously

Assemblyman Scott Wilk’s, R- Santa Clarita, bill that would establish greater transparency about the fiscal impact of local bond measures was passed unanimously by the Assembly, officials announced Friday.

Assembly Bill 2551 would ensure voters are fully aware of the complete cost of a proposed bond measure, according to a news release by Wilk’s office.

“Thanks to my colleagues in the Assembly for their support of a common sense measure,” Wilk said. “It’s important to provide our constituents more information regarding the true cost of a local bond measure.”

Since 1997, the non-partisan Legislative Analyst’s Office has been required to include the fiscal effect of each statewide General Obligation Bond on the ballot pamphlet, as well as certain criteria like the ultimate cost to the state.

A.B. 2551 would apply this same process to local bonds, officials said.

“A.B. 2551 helps ensure that voters are being provided comprehensive financial information so they are aware of the full costs of a bond proposal before they vote,” Wilk said.

Wilk represents the 38th Assembly District, which includes most of Santa Clarita Valley, Simi Valley and the northern section of the San Fernando Valley.
