Assemblyman Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, introduced a bill on Wednesday that would allow voters to cancel the High Speed Rail Project and redirect those funds to water projects, such as storage, transportation and desalination.

“If (the $68 billion bullet train project is) allowed to be completed,” stated Wilk, ” (it) will be a boondoggle of epic portions.”
If passed, Assembly Bill 1866 would give voters the chance in November 2016 to terminate the bullet train and repurpose up to $8 billion to water programs.
These water projects include the construction of desalination facilities, wastewater treatments and recycling facilities, reservoirs, water conveyance infrastructure and aquifer recharge.
“To enhance economic growth and improve Californians’ quality of life we need to have a robust water storage system and an ‘all of the above’ approach to water management,” said Wilk. “It’s time to derail the Bullet Train and commit resources to preserve our most precious natural resource, water.”
The 38th Assembly District encompasses Simi Valley, the northern section of the San Fernando Valley and most of the Santa Clarita Valley.

Thank you!
I totally agree. We need to increase and upgrade our water supply. This would benefit nearly every Californian. Compared to the “High Speed Rail” which would tax most and benefit few.
Thank you, California does not need the high speed rail.
Finally, something from Sacramento that actually makes sense. Where do I sign up to support this bill?
Thank you
I have seen rain water run into the ocean for over 60 years. I live in Calif. rain water running down the cement rivers
Into the ocean, when there could be basins to caught the perilous water to feed all of LA and the Southern California area.. You don’t need thus rail system when your freeways are parking lots every morning. You need to work on a rail system to move the cars in the area, not a rail system going 220 miles per hr. Between LA and San Fisco .
I heard this a while back and was like finally someone is getting smart. California does NOT need a high speed train that will destroy our communities for what? Get on an airplane folks….We have three nice airports and plenty of flights daily to the areas this train would go. And we need to get our water systems updated for the millions of people who now live here!! Please pass this bill!!
