Despite overwhelming passage through the state Senate and Assembly, Governor Jerry Brown vetoed a Senator Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, bill that would have doubled the terms for bond oversight committee members.

Under current law, citizen oversight committee members can serve up to six years. However, in Santa Clarita and other areas throughout the state, officials have trouble filling these volunteer positions after those members leave.
Wilk’s legislation, Senate Bill 341, would have increased the maximum limit to 12 years, allowing the experienced committee members to see the bond through to the end.
Brown explained his decision in a letter to the state senate, calling Senate Bill 341 a “statewide solution to a limited problem.”

No lawmakers voted against the bill during votes in both the Senate and Assembly.
