An already busy Saturday afternoon – punctuated with several fights and car crashes – got even busier for Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s deputies when a 911 caller reported a possible kidnapping near the entrance to California Institute of the Arts in Valencia.
The caller said a woman, described as Asian or “light black” in her 20s, was half-in and half-out of a car driven by a 41-year-old black male. The woman reportedly screamed at the informant to call 911 because she was being held against her wishes.
The informant waited about five minutes before calling 911 because she thought it might be a prank that’s “characteristic of students at CalArts,” according to the crime broadcast.
The call came in shortly before 5:30 p.m. Deputies treated it as real, scouring the streets of Valencia and Newhall and taking up positions at freeway entrances for about 45 minutes in search what was described as a dirty and decrepit green sedan with a tan top. It was last seen driving southbound on Tournament Road away from the art college.
The informant took down a partial license plate number of 4XT(?)563. The driver was wearing a white T-shirt and a do-rag.
The active search ended at about 6:10 p.m.
