Three students from West Ranch High School thought they’d drop into a neighbor’s back yard and have a smoke this morning.
Their morning break caused a whole lot of commotion in the neighborhood around the school, near the intersections of Westridge Parkway and Stonegate Drive.
According to Sgt. Tom Jensen of the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station, the trouble really kicked into gear when the homeowner spotted them and screamed. Compounding the problem was that they were smoking marijuana.

The students split up and ran, causing neighbors to follow them in hot pursuit. They were soon joined by responding deputies, who caught one suspect and set up a containment.
The other two suspects sauntered back onto the West Ranch campus, but they didn’t stay undetected for long. Deputies went to the school and removed them, reuniting the trio at the scene of the crime.
One of the juveniles will be cited for prowling. All three were released to their parents.
