Northbound traffic still restricted on San Francisquito Canyon Road after early-morning crash.

A deputy sheriff’s early morning crash took out power for a
large portion of San Francisquito Canyon residents Monday.

The northbound lane of San
Francisquito Canyon Road is still blocked, but
crews expect to be finished with repairs in the late afternoon.

Deputy Christopher Morgan was traveling northbound on San
Francisquito Canyon Road shortly before 2 a.m. when he swerved and sideswiped a power
pole just north of Copper Hill Drive
in Valencia, that
fell across all traffic lanes.

Morgan was transported to Henry
Mayo Newhall Memorial
Hospital with leg pain and his
patrol vehicle sustained major damage. Morgan was released after treatment.

Another vehicle traveling southbound on San Francisquito
Canyon hit the pole; the sole occupant of that vehicle was not injured and
damage to their vehicle was moderate.

Initially, more than 2,600 Edison
customers lost power, but Edison spokesman Christopher
Coronel said that by 11 a.m., only 25
to 30 customers were without power and crews expect to have full power restored
on the new pole by 3 p.m.
