Power Outages In Valencia

khts_breakingnewsUPDATED 8:06 p.m. Thursday

Power has been restored to most of the customers affected by the outage that struck at 3:05 p.m. within the boundaries of Rye Canyon on the north, the I-5 on the east and 126 on the west. Only 12 customers, near the intersection of Avenue Crocker and Avenue Huntington remain out of power. Edison spokeman Rudy Gonzales said the outage was caused by a failed cable and estimated time of restoration is 5:30 a.m. Friday.

As of 5:55 p.m., the number of customers affected had gone from 312 to 59, most of them commercial, some in the hospitality industry.

The outage was one of two that snarled traffic and left some customers without air conditioning on one of the hottest days of the year.

The first was a short outage on McBean Parkway near Newhall Ranch Road caused by underground equipment failure. The power went out shortly after 3 p.m. and took out traffic signals in the area around Copper Hill Drive, McBean Parkway, Newhall Ranch Road and Rye Canyon Road

According to Edison spokeswoman Ana Frutos Sanchez, that outage lasted only 10 minutes before the power was re-routed from another source and restored.
