Since 2003, Prayer Angels for the Military has hosted multiple events every year, such at “Hearts For Heroes,” where people can write a letter to soldiers and help send care packages.Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department Josh Tibett and Jon Heller at "Hearts for Heroes."

“Almost every soldier I know carries a card from a kid in their pocket, that’s what they tell me,” said President Suzon Gerstel.

In addition to making holiday cards, many things were donated, including food and miscellaneous items such as blankets and razors.

Gerstel said Prayer Angels for the Military is one of few organizations that tries to center their events and timing of events around when and what soldiers say they need.

“We’re in contact with the troops to find out what they need and want, we donate what’s needed,” Gerstel said.

Sharon Ventrice, one of founders, said she enjoys events that get the community involved.

“We try to involve people, especially the kids, so they can see what they do,” Ventrice said.

Although many items were donated, Ventrice said the group is sometimes limited in what they can send due to the amount of postage they can afford.

“In this economy people really pick and choose where to donate, and we’re not a national organization,” she said.

But Ventrice added that Prayer Angels for the Military is a “501 (c) 3,” meaning they’re a military non profit and all donations are tax deductible.

Gerstel said that although the organizations name specifically mentions military, they support all heroes.

“Heroes aren’t all military, so we try to involve law enforcement too,” she said.

Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department Josh Tibett and Jon Heller both attended the event.

“We come by to support, bring rigs (fire trucks) by so the kids can see them or crawl through them and learn about what we do,” Tibett said, as Heller wrote the following on a poster that is to be sent to our soldiers:

“You guys are in our thoughts every day. We cannot thank you enough. LA County F.D. 73 C-shift”
