Jimmy Carter paid a visit to Saint Genevieve High School in the San Fernando Valley on Monday, taking in a performance by the school choir and giving a brief talk on the importance of religion.
The visit was also a chance for the former president to connect with the school’s current principal, Dan Horn. In 1986, Horn, then a teacher near Washington, D.C., wrote a letter to former first lady Rosalynn Carter, praising her biography. Horn was subsequently invited to the Carters’ home in Plains, Georgia.

Nearly 20 years later, the two reconnected when Horn and four St. Genevieve students attended a conference in Plains to hear Jimmy Carter teach Sunday school at a local church.
In 2009, St. Genevieve students travled to Plains to film a documentary on Carter and his 85th birthday party.
Certainly, Monday’s visit was not only a treat for the St. Genevieve students, but for the two old friends as well.
