Habitat for Humanity San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys (SF/SCV) is excited to be one of 300 Habitat affiliates nationwide participating in National Women Build Week, sponsored in part by Lowe’s.

This empowering event began on May 2nd with Habitat welcoming women from all different backgrounds in North Los Angeles County as they joined forces to build homes for veterans and their families.

The Women Empowerment Build (WE Build) honors women and female veterans in non-traditional roles while providing an opportunity to learn construction techniques in a supportive environment.

Many of this year’s participants are female veterans and family members who will be moving into the community.

All WE Build participants will help build Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV’s 78-home Enriched Neighborhood® for low-income veterans, located on Centre Pointe Parkway in Santa Clarita.

This service-enriched veteran community has been piloted by Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV and adopted by the California Department of Veterans Affairs as a CalVet REN (Residential Enriched Neighborhood).

In addition to 78 brand new three and four-bedroom homes, the community will include an urban garden and a sensory integration playground.

Habitat will also deliver an array of social services to ensure veterans achieve self-sufficiency and successfully reintegrate back into civilian life. These services include Post-Traumatic Stress counseling, health education and screenings, art workshops for trauma victims, financial literacy training, and much more.

There are still a few spots remaining for the final WE Build event on May 9th. Registration is $40 per person and includes a t-shirt, pink hard hat, continental breakfast, lunch, and there will even be a Power Tool Demonstration by volunteers from the Lowe’s E. Santa Clarita store. To register for the 2015 WE Build please visit the website or contact Donielle at (818) 884-8808.
