Part of the preparation for selling bonds and starting projects after a victory in the November 4th election is the establishment of the Citizens Oversight Committee.

The Citizens Oversight Committee is mandated by law and is designed to ensure accountability to the public. The Committee must include at least seven members of the community who will be appointed by the Governing Board of the School District.

Service on the Committee is an opportunity for interested members of the community to learn more about the District and its facilities plans and is an opportunity for members of the community to support the District and its mission of public education.

The District is required to form a Citizens’ Oversight Committee, comprised of specified members of the community to assist the District in reviewing the expenditures of bond funds as they occur.

Service is without compensation and the Committee is expected to meet at least quarterly.

Employees of the District and vendors, consultants, and contractors who work for, or provide services to, the District may not serve on the Committee. Members of School District PTAs, PTOs, PTCs, PFOs, and Site Councils are encouraged to apply.

“Our community trusts that we will be transparent about the use of the Measure EE bond dollars and the Citizens Oversight Committee will ensure that our stakeholders have all the information they need regarding Measure EE,” stated Governing Board President Rose Koscielny.

Applications for participation on the Committee must be submitted on the District’s Citizens Oversight Committee (COC) Application Form.

The Application Form is available upon request at 661.294.5300 and can be downloaded from the Saugus Union School District Website.

Application Forms should be hand delivered or addressed to: Saugus Union School District, Attention: Dr. Joan Lucid, Superintendent at 24930 Avenue Stanford, Santa Clarita, CA 91355 and should be mailed to be received by 4:00 PM on Friday, February 20. Applications submitted or received after the deadline will not be considered.

Please note that under State law, the District cannot hold the completed Applications as confidential documents.

The selection process for Committee applicants will include a review of the applications and an interview by a subcommittee of the Board.

Final selection and appointment of the members of the Committee will be by the Governing Board and is scheduled for the March 17 Governing Board Meeting.

Funds from Measure EE, a Prop 39 school facilities bond, will modernize, add necessary technology upgrades, renovate, and revitalize the District’s schools.

Funds generated from authorized bonds will be used for a variety of Saugus Union School District capital projects. These projects will help the District in meeting its educational goals to educate the students in our community.

Questions and/or comments concerning the Committee, the application process, the Application Form and associated materials should be directed to Dr. Joan Lucid, Superintendent, at 661-924-5300.
