The annual California State High School Speech and Debate Tournament will be hosted by West Ranch High School on Friday April 19th- 21st.

Judges are still needed! Staff, teachers and community members are encouraged to volunteer!

Generally, anyone who has completed high school can serve as a judge.  A judge does not have to have been a competitor, nor a coach, or have had any prior experience as a judge. Judges may be former high school competitors or coaches, most are parents or community members.

Rounds begin on Friday afternoon and continue through Sunday afternoon. Judges have the option for signing up for one or more rounds each day.

CHSSA(California High School SPeech Association) is a non-profit, all volunteer association comprised of over 300 member schools throughout the state of California. Volunteer members include teachers, speech and debate coaches, parents and community members. CHSSA sponsors 11 leagues in the state that host avariety of local speech and debate competitions as well as qualify students to attend the State Tournament. Each of the 11 leagues sponsors three qualifying tournaments to qualify students to compete at the State Tournament in seventeen different speech and debate events.

This tournament is the 55th Annual California High School Speech and Debate Championships. Students in this activity compete at a number of tournaments in preparation for the end of the year championships.

You will see some of the best and brightest California has to offer. These are wonderful students who are looking forward to showcasing their hard work for you. At the end of the weekend a State Champion will be named in each event!
