Primitive Bombs Taken Seriously By Sheriff

Four minor explosions may be meant as pranks, but law sees it differently.

Four amateur bombs were detonated Saturday in Valencia, with debris discovered by homeowners, but no suspects were seen and no arrests were made.

According to Sheriff’s Arson and Explosives Detective Ed Nordskog, the bombs may have been part of graduation pranks, because in a couple of cases, the houses were also decorated with toilet paper, but every case is taken seriously by the sheriff’s department.

“We don’t consider them pranks because of the amount of people who get hurt by them,” Nordskog said. “It’s a strike felony you get arrested for it, a non-reduceable thing. The laws are pretty harsh for a reason.”

Often pets or innocent bystanders are hurt by bombs that “fail” or don’t detonate as their makers expected, Nordskog explained. “If someone puts out 10, six will fail and go off when a pet finds it or someone goes to throw it away.”
