Youth group assembles Christmas stockings for teens in youth probation camp
They call them “agape bags”, meaning love offering. And that’s exactly what the Pioneer Youth Club of Valencia United Methodist is giving to the both the Munz and Mendenhall Juvenile Probation Camps.
Each person at both the camps will receive their own stocking, stuffed with little gifts. “The stockings will be stuffed with many different kinds of things, such as shampoo, chapstick, Christian comic books, or a daily devotional,” says Valencia United Methodist member Wendy Langhans.
Both camps are located up in the mountains of Lake Hughes, and things get chilly at night. “Up in the mountains, the air is cold and dry, and these kids go without things like chapstick,” Langhans said. The stockings will not only give the teens some basic necessities, they will also bring some Christmas cheer, having a little something to look forward to on Christmas morning.
And although Valencia United Methodist Church isn’t recommending item donations, because of strict regulations, they are encouraging the community to either donate money or come down to their “stocking stuffing party” on December 23rd, at 11:30 a.m. following their 10:30 service.
