Providence Acquires Tarzana Medical Campus

The non-profit health services provider will now have three hospitals in San Fernando Valley.

[view:node_ad=5]After working on a deal for 3 ½ years, Providence Health Systems California Region CEO Arnold Schaffer announced that Providence has purchased the Tarzana Campus of the Encino-Tarzana Regional Medical Center from Tenet Healthcare Corporation.

This breaking news means that Providence will hold a massive presence in the San Fernando Valley with three hospitals close together. Tarzana Medical Center is roughly 8-10 miles away from both Providence Holy Cross in Mission hills and Providence St. Joseph in Burbank.

The Tarzana campus is a 245 bed acute care hospital, currently owned by Tenet Healthcare, which is a publicly held for-profit company. Providence will transform the Medical Center to a not-for-profit Catholic ministry, in the same fashion as Holy Cross and St. Joseph.

The deal should close in 60 days, and until then, Schaffer said that he couldn’t release the specific dollar amount that the Tarzana Campus was purchased for.

The purchase by Providence comes as three San Fernando Valley Hospitals have closed in the last five years.

Providence has previously announced a desire to build a hospital in Santa Clarita sometime in the near future.
