Each center is outfitted with the latest technology
Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center of Burbank and Providence Holy Cross Medical Center of Mission Hills now provide free blood pressure screening at heart check center displays located in local malls.
The heart check centers consist of automated blood pressure and pulse rate monitors and cards on which scores can be recorded. The screening is convenient as it does not require an appointment and takes only a few minutes. Each center is outfitted with the latest technology, making the screenings as accurate as those performed in a doctor’s office.
High blood pressure results in the death of approximately 50,000 people in the United States and 200,000 people worldwide each year. Although the cause of 90 to 95 percent of high blood pressure cases is not known, the problem is easily controlled when detected in time.
"The heart check centers are a free service to the community that further exemplify Providence Saint Joseph and Providence Holy Cross Medical Centers’ commitment to helping the community at large maintain a healthy and quality life," said Linda Gaul, Manager of Senior Care Services for Providence Health System San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys Service Area.
The heart check centers are a part of Providence Saint Joseph and Holy Cross Medical Centers’ Beyond 50 program, which offers free informational seminars, educational and social opportunities, and preventive health programs to adults age 50 and older.
The heart check centers are located in the Burbank Town Center, the Sherman Oaks Fashion Square Mall, and the Valencia Town Center. For more information, call (818) 847-4120.
