Public Invited To Open Space Dedication December 9

khts_citymatters_scvlogoOn Thursday, December 9 at 10 a.m., the City of Santa Clarita is hosting a dedication to acknowledge the City’s recently completed acquisition of 243 acres of the Rodda/Agua Dulce Partners property. The event location is accessible from the 14 Freeway North, exit Agua Dulce Canyon Road, turn right and drive towards the balloons at the event site. The community is asked to RSVP to 661-255-4939 to attend the dedication.

The City closed escrow on the Rodda/Agua Dulce Partners property on October 27, 2010.  This property is contiguous to the existing City-owned open space Wagoner property, and completes another portion of a future “bridge” making connections to the Angeles National Forest.

This land is part of the Santa Clara River watershed, the Castaic and San Gabriel Mountains ranges, and this “missing linkage” is recognized as part of the Conservation Area Protection Plan

“The Rodda purchase further enhances the protected eastern greenbelt and expands the City’s open space land,” said Mayor Laurene Weste.

With a total purchase price of $1,290,000, this acquisition was funded with a $750,000 grant to the Riverside Land Conservancy from the State of California Rivers and Mountains Conservancy. The balance of funds was provided by the City of Santa Clarita’s Open Space Preservation District.

For more information on the dedication or to RSVP please call 661-255-4939.
