Rain to Continue, Causes Power Outages

As of Friday morning at 10:30 a.m., rain continues to fall in the SCV, and is expected to continue throughout the day, with heavy downpours at times.  Rain is likely throughout the weekend and even into Monday, with snow possible at the higher elevations, and has even been reported in Palmdale and Lancaster.

Because of the stormy weather, Interstate 5 has been closed once again through the Grapevine.  This closure is subject to change — as Caltrans crews bring plows out, CHP will do their best to open the road, even if with CHP escorts, but will keep lanes closed as long as hazards still exist for drivers.

Depending on your ultimate destination, to avoid the Golden State Freeway, use Highway 14 North to Mojave, then 58 West to Bakersfield to reconnect with the 5, or take the 126 West to Ventura, then take 101 North into Northern California.

Because of the rain, several thousand residents in Valencia, specifically North Park, have been affected with power outages since 2:30 this morning.  Southern Calfornia Edison officials say the cause is a failed line (because of the rain) that needs to be replaced near Sunset Hills Drive and McBean Parkway.  A “partial repair” is expected by 2 p.m.

Stay tuned to KHTS for the latest on rain related power outages and road closures.
