Reading In Honor Of Dr. Seuss

Sulphur Springs students celebrate his birthday.

ImageDr. Seuss may not be around anymore, but his books are alive and well. The classic children’s author was born on March 2nd 1904, and today kids around the nation celebrated his life and work by listening as readers visited their classroom to read from various titles.

KHTS was at Sulphur Springs Elementary today to read Are You My Mother and The Cat In The Hat to students.

Every class participated in the readings, from kindergarten to 6th grade. And other districts in Santa Clarita had programs of their own running throughout the day.

Organizers put the whole program into perspective, saying that it’s designed to promote reading for enjoyment. They even classified it as forming an affair with reading.

What better way to demonstrate the joy of the written word than reciting Dr. Seuss?

In fact, the California Teachers Association organized events all around the state, with celebrities like NFL star Keyshawn Johnson and Actor Robert Guillaume visiting Encino Elementary School.

ImageThe theme for California this year is “Get Jazzed About Books.”

It invites reading to become a lifelong hobby that isn’t just relegated to school. Parents can read with their children, friends can read with friends. Fiction, Non Fiction, Comedy Drama, Novel, Play, Short Story…whichever way a person chooses to read is indeed the best way. So have fun with it!
