Bakery Fillings, More Lobster Meat Recalled

khts_recallsThe Food and Drug Administration has recalled cream fillings used in bakery products (in store or bake shops, not pre-packaged) and thrown a bigger net out for a previously-announced recall of lobster meat.

Rich Products Corporation on June 18, 2010 voluntarily recalled its Allen Bavarian Crème Filling (product code 02881) with Production codes 11870137F21, F-22, F-23, F-24, F-25, because the product may contain undeclared pecans, milk, and coconut. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to these ingredients run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

Rich Products Corporation has not received any reports of illness connected with this product and has issued this voluntary recall as a precautionary measure.

The pail size is 3.5 gallons. Pail weight is 31.0 lbs and the pail material is HDPE (High Density Polyethylene). Allen Bavarian Crème Filling is not packaged for retail distribution and is sold to food service distributors and in-store bakeries nationwide. Rich’s has already notified all of its distributors and customers who have received the products in question and has directed them to remove and destroy the affected products.

A bigger net for lobsters

UPDATE June 18, 2010 – Portland Shellfish Company, Inc. is expanding this voluntarily recall to include the Meat Without Feet private label food service (2 Lb bags), pack of ready to eat frozen lobster claw and knuckle meat. Lot 13310, as recent tests show the product has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recalled product was distributed in the New York City metropolitan area.

Recalled product and Lot number:

75 cases lobster claw and knuckle meat, packed 6 x 2 lb. bags, frozen, packed under Meat Without Feet label, production lot number 13310, shipped on 05/13/2010.

Consumers who have purchased this product are urged not to consume it and to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
