Ford Expands F-150 Recall Due To Short In Airbag System

2005_Ford_F150The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Ford are expanding a recall of 2004-2006 Ford F-150 trucks because a possible short in the airbag system might cause the airbags to unexpectedly inflate and cause a hazard.

The recall also includes the 2006 model Lincoln/Mark LT.

khts_recallsAccording to the NHTSA and Ford, of the clockspring jumper wire comes into contact with the driver side frontal air bag lower horn plate, the wire insulation may become chafed and create a potential short circuit. If this occurs, the air bag warning lamp may come on, indicating a need for service or the driver side frontal air bad could inadvertently deploy, putting the driver and passengers at risk of injury if control of the vehicle is lost while in motion.

Ford is in the process of notifying owners, who will be instructed to take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln/Mercury dealer to have a new jumper wire installed that incorporates a protective mesh cover. Repairs will be performed free of charge.

This safety recall began on some vehicles in March, but was recently expanded. Vehicle owners can call the Ford Motor Company customer relationship center at 866-436-7332. They may also call the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to
