Recalls Span Course From Spinach To Dog Treats

HEALTH BARS

RECALLOrganixBarsXYMOGEN® of Orlando, FL is recalling specific lots of 3 Varieties of OrganiX Bars: Omega-3, Spice and Greens, because they may contain undeclared peanut protein. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanut protein run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

Affected lots of OrganiX Bars were distributed nationwide through mail orders between the dates of August 4th, 2010 to April 19th, 2011.

Products were distributed in boxes containing 12 (50g) Bars. Lot Codes can be found on the individual bar wrappers and on the upper left side of the retail carton printed in white ink.

There have been NO reported allergic reactions to the specific lot #s to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that a lot of cashew butter last year during summer was tested to contain peanut proteins. Our supplier did not disclose the possibility of peanut protein presence on the label as a warning statement.

Customers may return products of the specific lots to XYMOGEN ® for a full rebate. A recall notification letter and response form will be sent out to all customers who have purchased within the distribution date range. ENCHILADA SAUCE

recallenchiladasauceArizona Canning Company is recalling its 29 ounce cans of Sun Vista Red Enchilada Sauce (Mild, Medium and Hot) because they may contain undeclared soy protein. People, who have allergies to soy, run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled Sun Vista Red Enchilada Sauce (Mild, Medium and Hot) was distributed in California and Arizona. All lots of this product are being recalled.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the ingredient list on the label reads “Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein” instead of the more descriptive term “Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (Soy)”.

Consumers who have purchased the Sun Vista Red Enchilada Sauce (Mild, Medium and Hot) and are sensitive or allergic to Soy are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-211-0600 (Mon-Fri 7:30AM-4:00PM (MST)).

SPINACH

RECALLFreshNEasyspinachFresh & Easy Neighborhood Market Inc., is voluntarily recalling fresh Organic Baby Spinach with the Enjoy by date of Aug 01 sold under the f&e™ label.

The recall notification is being issued out of an abundance of caution based on a random sample test, conducted on behalf of the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). One bag of this product with the Aug 01 Enjoy by date was confirmed to be positive for Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have been associated with this product.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Fresh & Easy believes that it is important to alert consumers that might still possess this product with the Enjoy by date of Aug 01. Customers still in possession of this expired product should immediately dispose of it.

The recalled product was sold in Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market stores located in California, Nevada, and Arizona.

Customers may return the empty product bag or present the receipt as proof of purchase of the recalled product to any Fresh & Easy store for a full refund. Consumers who have questions or concerns about this recall should contact the Fresh & Easy 24-hour toll free number at 1 (800) 648-8622.

DOG TREATS

Merrick Pet Care, Inc. of Amarillo, Texas is recalling a single lot of its Doggie Wishbone pet treat (ITEM # 29050, UPC # 2280829050, Lot 11031 Best By 30 Jan 2013) because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.  Merrick Pet Care has made the decision to recall the Doggie Wishbone pet treats in the abundance of caution.  248 cases of this lot were manufactured and shipped to distributors in 10 states.  Those distributors have been notified.  Only one lot of Doggie Wishbone is affected by this recall.  No additional Merrick Pet Care products are involved in this recall. No other Merrick brand products are involved.

Salmonella can affect animals and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products. People handling the treats can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the chews or any surfaces exposed to these products.  Consumers should dispose of these products in a safe manner by securing them in a covered trash receptacle.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers immediately.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

The Doggie Wishbone was shipped to distributors and retailers throughout the US.  These individuals have been notified and have activated their recall procedures.

No illnesses have been reported to date and there have been no consumer complaints for this product. This issue was identified through routine sampling by the Food and Drug Administration.
