Recycling Batteries Made Easy By City

The City of Santa Clarita is helping residents recycle household batteries and cell phones. Recycling battery bins are available at three drop-off locations.

Battery bins are located at City Hall, Jo Ann Darcy Library in Canyon Country and the Community Center in Newhall.

“To avoid toxic chemicals from being dumped in public landfills, our City is encouraging residents to recycle both rechargeable and non rechargeable batteries,” commented Environmental Services Manager Travis Lange. “Santa Clarita is dedicated to keeping universal wastes such as batteries out of our landfills to help preserve our natural resources,” he said.

Common batteries, which contain a corrosive chemical that can cause burns as well as pollute landfills, include AA, AAA, C cells, D cells, rechargeable and button batteries found in cameras, hearing aids or watches.

Rechargeable batteries are commonly found in cordless power tools, cellular and cordless phones, laptop computers, camcorders, digital cameras, and remote control toys. Rechargeable batteries may also be dropped-off at any retailer who sells rechargeable batteries in the Rechargeable Batteries Recycling Corporation box.
