The American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles is proud to announce the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of a new service center at 23838 Valencia Blvd. in Santa Clarita on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at 5:00pm. The new facility replaces the old service center at the Bouquet Canyon shopping center and will allow the Red Cross to expand its ability to provide lifesaving skills and disaster services in Santa Clarita and the surrounding area.
Since 1976, the Red Cross has offered training in first aid, CPR and water safety in the Santa Clarita Valley. Last year, 730 people received Red Cross instruction through 183 classes taught here. Additionally, dozens of local business customers have been able to take advantage of Red Cross expertise to ensure their businesses are better prepared for disasters and meet OSHA standards for health and safety training. The new facility is conveniently located next to city hall, and will help ensure that the community is well served in the event of a major disaster.
Responding to disasters is another way the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles serves the community. In the last two years, the Red Cross has responded to 35 disasters including house and apartment fires, floods, and other incidents in the Santa Clarita Valley. In that same period, 155 local families have received more than $180,000 in direct disaster relief and services. The new facility will provide a more efficient platform for disaster volunteers to meet and plan responses to disasters of all types that might strike the area.
